To be fair, E.On don't seem too bad. They have increased their R&D budget by 12% year on year and seem to work towards including environmentally efficient solutions with their projects.
It should be borne in mind, however, that renewable energy - no matter how efficient - is a guaranteed source of income for a company as it is subsidised by the government.
There is also a market in "carbon credits", which will further distort the economic argument for renewables.
