Solar Power

Many would think that solar is not much use in the UK, but we have vast areas of land already used that would not be affected in the slightest by the addition of solar panels.

Our houses and places of work.

Why, when we are so keen on saving the environment, do we not insist on solar panels being installed on all new builds - residential, commercial or industrial?

It would add on average £2,500 to the cost of a brand new home - the average house price in the UK is approximately £150,000. An increase of 1.7% on this price. How about abolishing stamp duty for homes with solar panels?

Excess power produced by the panels could be either stored, or sold back to the National Grid. This could be taxed at a special rate to recover the stamp duty lost - or is this starting to sound too sensible?

A cynic or even conspiracy theorist would conclude that the lobbying power of the energy companies had helped slow this process, as they have everything to lose and nothing to gain by this route.

This site, however, is neither of these so would not condone this view.
