
BIOENERGY
This
refers to the use of renewable sources of energy - i.e. anything from trees
to the methane that is generated by landfill sites or animal dung.
This is typically burnt, or converted into an equivalent liquid fuel that is easily distributable.
The theory is that "Biomass" fuels - such as wood - absorb as much CO2 in their lifetime as is released when they burn - hence being neutral from a greenhouse gas perspective.
This does not solve local pollution issues but does help reduce "greenhouse gases".
